In a way it makes me.. happy?

Time to shift gears. Since we're talking about KEMS' latest move to block our blogs--and don't forget Qualitynet's similar attempts during last elections--I thought it might be interesting to question the idea of corporations and their role in modern life.

How were they born? How did they come to dominate our everyday life? How did they acquire the legal status of 'person', and what kind of persons are they? How did the idea of 'limited liability' come about? Are corporations intrinsically evil? Are they tyrannical and anti-democratic by virtue of their nature?

These are some of the questions THE CORPORATION tries to look into. As to my views on the topic, I prefer to address them during the debate (like there's gona be one!)

THE CORPORATION

A film by Mark Achbar, Jennifer Abbott, and Joel Bakan

Part 1:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3969792790081230711&q=the+corporation

Part 2:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7365345393244917682&q=the+corporation

New Generation Book Club

Good Morning Kuwait!

Basically, this is a kind of a new generation book club. Instead of printed books, however, I will post links to interesting stuff from the internet--interesting to me at least! The intension is to spur debate over a wide range of issues, from god to sex to economics to politics to...sex? Well, you get the point!

Oh, and there is no red line but one: a red line! People who find subjects here offensive ARE the target audience!

This will be (or rather could be) fun! Posts will lean towards video and audio material. These will include documentaries, interviews, speeches etc. Less emphasis will be given to written material.. guess why?:)

Discussions around the posts may be more useful if we try to relate them to Kuwait.

*Anyways, just to break the ice, let's start with God!

The Virus of Faith

Documentary by Richard Dawkins, University of Oxford

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5752208690443739173

**in case the link is giving you trouble, here's an alternative..

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8365780578032579777&q=virus+of+faith
